Windows Vista: Last 32-Bit Version of Windows
At the Windows Hardware Engineering, Microsoft announced that Windows Vista will be the last installment in the Windows series that will be 32-Bit friendly.

The next operating systems to come from Microsoft will not be able to run on 32-Bit processors such as the Pentium 4 or Intel Core Duo. Microsoft's general manager for the Windows Server platform, Bill Laing, stated that "Windows Server 2008 is the last 32-Bit operating system (for desktops and servers) that we'll produce". Laing also said that the company is "in the middle of a transition to 64-Bit computing". In 2008, Microsoft is said to make a full transition to 64-Bit.

The company's general manager for Windows Server platform, Bill Laing, confirmed that "Windows Server 2008 is the last 32-bit operating system (for desktops and servers) that we'll produce".

Laing went on to say at a morning WinHEC keynote that the company is "in the middle of a transition to 64-bit computing. Post-2008, we will transition to 64-bit. Many Microsoft products are becoming 64-bit only today, because they're realizing the benefits of 64-bit computing."

Vishal I don't think it to be a cool move as in India mostly all the people are using the 32 bit operating system and moreover all the offices, the schools and all other institutions are using it.If microsoft stops producing the 32 bit operating system than all such institutions would have to upgrade their computers which would reallly need a lot of money and even we have to buy or upgrade our PC's

Re: Windows Vista: Last 32-Bit Version of Windows
Yea. I can understand it. But the next version of Windows will take approx. 4 or 5 years to be released, and in that period of time, we'll see BIG changes in the computer world. So its a wise move.
And ppl, who'll not be able to purchase the required hardware, can carry on using the older versions, like XP, Vista. Like atm lots of ppl who can't afford constly hardware required for Vista, using XP.
