HELSINKI: Sales of mobile phone maker
Sony Ericsson were hurt by a shortage of some key components in the September quarter, its chief executive said.
Earlier, Sony Ericsson reported third-quarter profit below market expectations as the company shipped far fewer phones than expected, though it said its high-end handsets were selling well.
"There are supply chain shortages on the market, and that has affected us. Our volume did not meet expectations. That is the one reason sticking out," Bert Nordberg said.
Sony Ericsson, a long time user of Microsoft's Windows software on its cellphones, is looking also whether to use the new Windows Phone 7 software, the chief executive said.
"I am evaluating it," Nordberg said, but declined any further comments. Sony Ericsson has turned to profit this year, but the operating profit margin was at 4 per cent in the third quarter, well below CEO's aim.
"My ambition level is to get it to 10 per cent, but I have not said when. I will not be satisfied before (that happens)," Nordberg said.
