Introduction to Business Intelligence in Project Server 2010
The Business Intelligence features will enable you to customize the data captured in and retrieved from the Enterprise Project Management solution.
Enterprise Metadata encompasses the Custom Field functionality and will allow you to extend the data captured as related to
1. Projects
2. Resources
3. Tasks
4. Timesheets
5. Departments
In Project Server 2003 and 2007, all metadata was global to the installation. Many companies chose to implement Project Server at a departmental level to enable the metadata to fit the business unit need. Project Server 2010 allows the definition of metadata at a department level, eliminating one of the needs for separate Project instances.
Business Intelligence (BI) encompasses Reporting with Excel Services and On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) Database features, which will enable you to create reports and online views of Project data.
Excel Services Integration makes it easier to create custom reports and views of Reporting Database and OLAP data.
OLAP Management investments make it easier for Administrators to create and manage OLAP database configuration and refresh operations for multiple OLAP databases.
