I am using excel 2003. Im making a tool where depending on the input, excel will provide combination of output.

for eg. my products are of 10kw and 15kw. so if the input= 35 the result would show  "1" in a cell next to 15 and "1" in cell next to of 20.
if input = 100 the result would show "5" next to 20 and "0" next to 15.

Please let me know how..

Hi,

Your example is confusing and unclear.  For 60kW, why shoul it be 0 and 3.  Why can't it be 4 and 0.  Also, for 100, why should it be 0 and 5, why not 4 and 2?

Please clarify and take a more explanatory/robust example.

HI,
hope this makes it clearer.

In my example i have 2 inverters for input, 15kw and 20kw capacity.

The combination should result in minimum number of inverters.

That is the reason why i need 3*20 instead of 4*15 for a 60kw which would result in total of 3 as opposed to 4.

similarly 5*20 instead of 4*15+2*20 for 100kw, which would result in 5 as opposed to 6.

Thank you.

Hi Ashish,

The formula isn't working when you input 45 or 50.

i case of 45 it should show 15*3. in case of 50 15*2+20*1.

regards.

Hi,

I think i am close to solving the problem.  Could you share the other numbers (such as 45, 50) that you want to test my solution for?
