I am trying to create a way of tracking equipment check in and out. I would like to have the item number and when it is clicked on have a text box come up that can have the user's name added. I would also like to have that text box have the time auto-populated to track when it is sent out and returned. Is this something that is doable in Excel?  Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Please clarify.  I am not clear of your requirement.  Upload a sample file and explain with respect to specific cells in the worksheet.

Hi,

Instead of a text box, why cant the name be typed in cell B3.  In cell C3, if you enter Ctrl+Shift+; to get the time.

I want to try to keep it as clean as possible. There will be 5 device types that each have 10 items under them. There also needs to be different areas for the AM shift and PM shift. The example is very basic. I haven't really started building it yet. I needed to know if there was any way to easily create it.

Hi,

From a design perspective, it would be far better to maintain data the way i suggested.  Thsi will allow you ot list a host of features such as Filter, Sort, VLOOKUP(), pivot etc.

If the data goes to a text box and if you later want to use the date for some other purpose, you will then have to extract the data from the text box which will be another customised solution.
