Hi Ashish,

I am stuck with a problem, I am unable to use the auto recover feature of MS Office 2010. I have already checked the option for auto recover and auto saved feature in options, i.e. excel options and all. All the required options are checked. Can you provide some solution?

Thanks a ton

Pradip

Hi Ashish,

Thanks for the reply, But this doesnt help me. I know how to recover the files in 2010, however, I am not able to recover the same. when i go to recover unsaved files, I dont find any file to recover the last used file. The "recover unsaved files" folder is always blank. It used to work before but now all of a sudden it doesnt work any more.

I tried to search for the answere on microsoft help and various other forums to find this answere. Hope you can provide some help!

Regards,
Pradip

Hi,

First and formost, autorecovery is not a file back creation tool/facility.  Any temporary "saved" file created by Autorecovery while you are working on a file is deleted when the workbook is saved or closed successfully.

There is no backup retained in that case.

Autorecovery offers you a copy of that temporary file only if Excel crashes while you are working.

Hope this helps.

Hi Ashish,

Thanks for your post again. However, that again doesnt answer the question. May be I have not explained it properly, let me make one more attempt.

I am not talking about autorecover option which was there in 2007 and the previous versions. I am talking specifically about Office 2010.

Lets say, I am working on a newly created excel file which is not yet saved. I work on it and lets say after 15-20 minutes I close it without saving. Excel or MS Office 2010 has the feature of recovering the file using the following steps:

1. File --> Info --> Manage Versions,
The above steps opens a window which helps me to recover the recently used files which were closed without saving it. The maximum time of recovery is only 4 days. But unfortunately now when i follow the above steps I see the recover unsaved files folder is completely blank.

The answere you've given correct for 2007 and earlier versions, but as you know in MS Office 2010 the it keeps the recently unsaved documents.

I think uninstalling and reinstalling the application might help but for some reason I am reluctant to do that.

Hope you've understood the query!

Thanks for your effort that you putin to help people! Wish you a very Happy New Year Ahead !

Regards,
Pradip

Hi,

I tried on my system and it worked just fine for me.

See if the file is at the following location - C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles

Also, ensure that under File > Options > Save, "Keep the last auto saved version if i close without saving" box is checked.  Also, the "Save autorecover information every" box is checked.

Yes sir, It is my problem. The location that you've suggested is the same as what you get when you try to recover the file.

Hi,

If you have also ensured that the two boxes are checked (as suggested in my previous solution) and you are still unable to recover files, then i am out of ideas.  Instead of reinstalling Office, try to Repair it - http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/exc...

I am guessing this problem is occuring because of a Windows Registry change or a recent software upgrade.

You may look at http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/excel.... finds out corrupted excel data, scans and repairs it. Utility restores excel fonts, worksheets, formulas, styles of tables and etc. During restoration utility doesn't change original corrupted file, it creates a copy. Application starts under Win 98 and higher. You can check its features in demo version http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/downlo...
