Creating graph from select data of a master database

Hi All,

I need to create a graph based on select data which is part of a bigger data set without copy pasting the revelant data to antoher sheet. Also would like it to be dynamic. Can i do it Somehow.

For eg.

a spread option is based on the spread between the two underlying prices. now this option will be a lot more valuable when the spread blows out. I want to create a graph for the spread based on the following dataset for only those times when the option is In the money( ITM). again, it should be dynamic( eg. if i chance the criterion to OTM, i should get a graph which shows the Spread when it is OTM...)

Date       Option Value                   Spread             Status

xxxx        yyyyyy                                  GGG                   ITM

aaa       bbbbb                                  KKKK               OTM

ccc        dddd                                    LLL                   ITM

Thanks!

Re: Creating graph from select data of a master database

Yes Kanwaljeet, its possible, and its simple.

Assuming the table provided is in "Sheet1, A14", do the following:

1. Select A2:C4 ( i.e. leave out the column heading and Status column from selection )

2. Click on the chart wizard icon from "Standard Toolbar".

3. Choose your chart type > click next > columns > Series tab

4. In the Name box, define Series1 as " =Sheet1!$B$1" and series2 as "=Sheet1!$C$1"

5. Place the chart in a new sheet (Say, Chart1)

You are done. Perform Autofilter on Sheet1-Row1, select ITM from column D-dropdown and then view "Chart1" page, do the same for OTM also. You can get what you want.

The same is valid for filtering of any other column, like date, Option Value, Spread etc.

Re: Creating graph from select data of a master database

Thanks Argha!

I was crazy on that. how do i show two trends( or n trends) on the same graph..based on the same dataset .....dynaimcally... was thinking on the lines of Drop down menus, Choosing what i want to show and the graph does that( and changes scales automatically)....like want to show the Intrinsic and extrinsic value of an option on the same graph and then if i change my mind, show the volatility of the option( let us say that these three items are in three columns in the same dataset)

Thanks!

Kanwaljeet
