Hi,

From last two days, my SmartAX MT841 broadband modem's LAN ports(4) are not working. So i connected the modem with PC via USB port. The CD comes with modem provides USB drivers for XP. These drivers does not support Vista.

My system is dual booting... XP ... Vista ... Ubuntu 7.04 - Modem is working fine in XP, but not in Vista & Ubuntu!

any ideas ?

I searched but didnt find drivers for Vista. I think its not available atm. I found following link:

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=640162

You can try following things:

1. If the driver setup file is EXE, then try to run it in compatibility mode.

2. If its a folder containing .inf files, then try to manually install drivers from "Device Manager" and tell the location of the driver folder when it asks.

Thanks for the download links. I run the .exe file - The installation starting...After 2 min, the system(Vista) identifies the modem, But it roolback (remove) the drivers automatically...

I also run this .exe file in Windows Server 2003 RC1, same result

The BSNL Help Desk says " This model is out of date. You need to upgrade(buy) new modem. " ! One of my friend suggests D-Link provides best modems. Is there any alternative to Huawai SmartAX MT841 modem ?

Thanks

Go for D-Link for better software support.

If your LAN card is not working:

Open caninet, and change the PCI slot of LAN card. Start your system, new hardware will be found.Let windows find appropriate driver.

If you have onboard LAN card.

Go to device manager, find any ? mark in network devices.Update the drives online or provide motherboard CD

regarding using USB for connecting your DSL modem
First, I will never recommend you to use USB interface.USB has common problem of frequent disconnection. You need to jack out and in USB cable after every 15-20 min. And it has no solution.

Now regarding USB driver.
1) Request BSNL to change modem. They should do it for free. When I was at Airtel BB, I use to change hand to hand.
2) Upgrade firmware of your modem.Than you can install Vista compatible driver.
3) Buy a new modem, and let BSNL keep its rented modem.

" LAN Card " - The actual trouble is: The LAN O/P's in Modem are not working. 3 days back, the LAN functioning light is not displayed and the system can't identify the LAN connection. The inbuilt PC LAN card is working fine.

Modem firmware is up to date and version is of Dec 2005.

BSNL says " This model is out of date and warrenty ". So i decided to buy a new modem like D-Link. Thanks for your comments.

Ok...modem LAN port is not working. If you were a Airtel BB user and in Agra, Than I would have given you a new modem and won't need to make any request at customer care.
