Hello folks,

Does anybody know which specific icons need to be replaced to change vista's taskbar images for network, sound, and battery indicator?

For instance, I read the guide, and used reshacker and snooped around windows/system32/netshell.dll in order to find out which icons are responsible for network activity, but there are so many, both in Icon and Icon Group that I quickly got lost. In xp these were the 190-19sth icons, as far as I remember, but is that the same on vista?

And one more thing: is it possible to get rid of vista explorer's tab showing common tasks such as view, organize, burn, etc?

I would really appreciate your help, especially regarding taskbar modification.

Hi Luk

Welcome to the forum.

1. To change those icons, you'll need to edit "SndVolISSO.dll" file (for Volume icon), "batmeter.dll" file (for battery icon) and "netshell.dll" file (for network icon). All files can be found in "System32" folder.

2. Yep. You can get rid of those icons by setting the common task pane "Auto-hidden". Pls use following tutorial:

How to Make Folder Band Auto-Hidden in Windows Vista?

Hi and thank you for your responses and for the welcome :).

As for the network: I did look in netshell.dll, but that's where the problem is: there are way too many icons for me to figure out which exactly need to be replaced (surely, not all of them;). Could somebody tell me the number of the icon that has to be swapped? I look at them in reshacker and compared to the icon that sits in the taskbar now, but I am not sure which is the wicked which, so to speak. Pretty please :)

Also thank you for letting me know where to look to change battery meter and sound icon.

BTW, are you guys familiar with flyakite transformation pack? My aim is to get some of the icons from that package and insert them into relevant places using reshacker. Has anybody already tried that?

As for making the folder band invisible: your guide does not seem to work if one uses windowblinds6. It does work with aero though!

I have not checked the network icon but will let you know whenever I check it.

Regarding to Flyakite pack, I have used it but its make doesnt allow to use the resources anywhere else.

And about my auto-hidden band tutorial, I never checked it in WindowBlinds so can't say anything.

Ok. Please do let me know when you check it. If I figure it out, I will post my findings here.

As for the flyakite pack, the icons he uses are mostly extracted from mac, so I don't see why others shouldn't be allowed to use them.

Thanks again! :)
