Windows Vista Icons : Editing Vista icons 

There is the Vista icon editor that can open and extract, modify and save Vista icons as well. Also one can save these icons for the Windows XP, without compression for full compatibility is also possible.

 

Vista Icon

No any icon editors understands Vista icon format. It is because the format differs considerably. Special edition of RealWorld Icon Editor that fully supports Vista icons can be prepared using editors like RealWorld Icon Editor.

 

Vista Icon

The PNG compression is used for the ICO file of the 256x256 images only. PNG compressed Windows Vista icons are not able to read and edit with an XP-only compatible icon editor, and also not viewable in the PNG image editor. You will require a Windows Vista compatible icon editor, like Axialis IconWorkshop, to edit such icons.

Thansk for this quite interesting post!I didnt think that any program was out yet!I will find this quite useful after installing Vista in a few days!
