The beta program for Microsoft Office 14 (likely to be named Microsoft Office 2009) may not have begun, but according to a blog post on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online blog, the release of Office 14 and related products is expected to occur as early as the end of next year:
This document outlines the future direction of Microsoft Dynamics CRM through to the next major release, Microsoft Dynamics CRM "V.Next," which will be aligned with the Office 14 wave of product releases due in late 2009/early 2010.
It is quite possible that Microsoft will pull this information from the blog post, but this will only further confirm the expectation. This timeframe is of course very similar to the one given by various Microsoft officials for Windows 7, and it is quite possible that the software giant wants to repeat the Vista-Office 2007 launch with Windows 7 and Office 14. That was the first time the products were released simultaneously.
So far, Microsoft has not issued a press release regarding Office 14, which entered development in 2006, nor has it really disclosed much about what the new version will contain. Office 14 is expected to have the Office 2007 "ribbon" interface added for Visio and Project and should implement the ISO compliant version of Open XML.
