August 2008 DST finally released via Windows Update

On this month's Patch Tuesday, Microsoft didn't just release security updates. Windows users also received a Daylight Saving Time (DST) update that keeps Windows in line with new DST regulations in many countries. The update was released on the Microsoft Download Center a month ago, but only now has it been pushed out to all users. Although the update only affects Arabic Standard Time, Argentina Standard Time, Pacific SA Standard Time, Iran Standard Time, Morocco Standard Time, and Pakistan Standard Time, everyone received the update, since one can change time zone at any time.

The update is cumulative with other DST updates (it supersedes update KB942763, which was released in December 2007). The update was rolled out for all of Microsoft's currently supported Windows operating systems: XP x86, XP x64, Server 2003 x86, Server 2003 for Itanium, Server 2003 x64, Vista x86, Vista x64, Server 2008 x86, Server 2008 for Itanium, and Server 2008 x64.

For more information, check out Microsoft's Daylight Saving Time Help and Support Center, especially if your job requires you to keep on top of things like this. It's a shame that all this extra effort from governments and companies like Microsoft doesn't seem to be doing much good.
