Show or Hide the Menu Bar (Classic Menus)

SUMMARY: View or hide Windows Media Player 11's menu bar to access features or save space for multimedia playback.

What Windows Media Player 11 looks like with the Menu Bar.

Depending on your configuration, Windows Media Player 11 may not display its menu bar, hiding access to many playback and configuration functions. If you're used to applications showing menu bars and often need access to Windows Media Player's advanced features, enabling the menu bar is easy.

1. From Windows Media Player 11 click the ALT key.
2. Select "Show Classic Menus".

Enabling Windows Media Player 11's menu bar

Force Windows Media Player to Stay on Top

SUMMARY: Tired of watching movies with Windows Media Player 11 and having other windows vie for your attention?

While watching movies with Windows Media Player 11, depending on your system configuration and applications open, other windows may sometimes vie for your immediate attention. In doing so, your movie may become fully or partially covered by these windows or dialog boxes.

To help prevent this from happening you can force Windows Media Player 11 to stay on top of other windows.

1. Press "ALT", "T", then "O" to access the options menu.

2. When the "Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, select the "Player" tab.

3. Check "Keep the Player on top of other windows".

Enabling Windows Media Player 11's "Keep the Player on top of other windows" option.

4. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

Change the Default Online Store

SUMMARY: Instead of purchasing multimedia from URGE, what if you want to use a different online store?

Thanks to a deal with MTV Networks, Windows Media Player 11 promotes the URGE store where users can purchase music for listening on their machine, certain compatible portable devices, and CDs. However, what if you want to purchase multimedia from other online stores?

To change Windows Media Player 11's default online store, view the instructions afterwards.

1. From Windows Media Player 11, hover your mouse over the "Urge" button. A down-arrow will appear.

2. Click the down arrow and a menu will appear.

3. Click "Browse all Online Stores".

4. A menu will appear from within Windows Media Player 11 where you can choose your desired online store. Hovering your mouse over each store logo displays information about said store.

5. Click your desired store logo.

6. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to change to the selected online store. Click "Yes".

7. The "URGE" button will be replaced with the button of your desired online store.

If you wish, click on the down-arrow again and select "Add current service to menu". This makes the online store easier to access in the future.
