DoubleClick, an online advertising company that Google purchased in April 2007 for $1.3 billion, has announced that it now supports the capability to serve advertisements into Microsoft Silverlight 2 videos.
Specifically, DoubleClick added Silverlight support its In-Stream service, a video ad serving solution used by online publishers. This means that DoubleClick clients, such as NBC Universal, will be able to make money from Silverlight 2 videos. NBCOlympics.com, a division of NBC Universal, has already announced plans to offer 2,500 hours of Olympic video coverage to advertisers. DoubleClick In-Stream already supports serving ads in Flash, Real Media, and Windows Media video players, so adding Silverlight 2 to the mix seems to be a natural extension. Still, it's a bit surprising to see Silverlight getting a leg up from Google.
