At the recent TechReady conference, a meeting attended by over 6,000 Microsoft engineers from around the globe, Ozzie made one of his very rare keynote addresses. It was an occasion for many to get to know Ozzie, who is considered by many to be one of the top five programmers in the Universe!
The man, who is best known for creating Lotus Notes, was often blamed to be afraid of speaking in public - a fact he sheepishly admits. He does add, however, that he wants something very substantial to talk about when he does address a semi-annual conference of the likes of the TechReady.
When Ozzie did speak up, he had a different idea for Microsoft to reinvent itself. He wants the company to "go back to the start-up mode" and stop the current method of producing software, selling it to the consumer and start working on the next version.
According to Ozzie, the relationship between the customer and the company should be a continuous process. More like the highly successful Windows Update service, which offers consumers the option to choose what they want, but at the same time fixes critical security holes "on the fly". The consumers should have the option to choose what they want and pull it out from a cloud... literally !
