The Problem:-Every time I try to install rollup 2 it gives me a message that I need to have XP Media Center 2005,but I am already using Windows XP Media Center 2005.

Resolution:-Start>Run>Regedit>OK

Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center/Ident

The ident number should be 3.0.If not then change it.Restart.

There is also a cool utility -‘Media Center Ident Set’. This application allows you to set your Media Center systems ident value to any other releases version which used this flag, or set the value to what it should be automatically.Check it here how to:-

my OS is also XP MCE 2005. But, The Update RollUp 2 can't install on my system. Also, The MediaCenter is not opening correctly. Whenever i open the MediaCenter, it displays the following error:

ehshell.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Process id-0x96c(2412), Thread id=0x9c(156).

Click OK to terminate the application.

Click CANCEL to debug the application.

Is there any way to reset or reinstall the MediaCenter application ?

What Video Card are you using?

Try MCE Repair Tool:-

I replaced the value of MediaCenter (i.e., version 3.0) with 4.0

Then the windows update installed the updates successfully. After rebooting, the media center application is not working anymore. The error messages i received are described in previous post. I installed several s/w's after windows update. So i can't run System Restore.

I tried the MceRepair utility. But its also displays error messages in executing.........again, i replaced the value to original(i.e., 3.0). This not solves my problem!

Is there any way to reinstall the Media Center application from Windows XP MCE CD2 ?

Thanks

Hi

I removed the latest update of media center application and removes the unnecessary registry keys( through microsoft Live Online Safty Scanner). After restarting the system, The media Center runs perfectly without any error.

By using your registry tweak, i successfully installed the latest version of Windows Media Player 11.

Thanks sir
