Removing the arrow from shortcut icons

If you have shortcuts on your desktop, or anywhere else in Windows 98, you may not like the little arrow that Windows 98 places on them automatically. There is a way, however, to remove them. Doing this involves editing the registry. We recommend having a backup of the registry before continuing. To do this:

  1. Click the Start button.
  2. Click Run
  3. In the Open field type regedit and click OK.
  4. From the Edit menu, click Find.
  5. In the Find what field, type IsShortcut and click Find Next,
  6. When finished finding, delete all instances of it.
  7. Go to your desktop and press F5 and the arrows will be gone.
