Windows Server 2008 installation currupts HDD's MBR ! [ BUG TRACKING ]

Hi,

Today i downloaded the server 2008 enterprise x86 iso file from microsoft download center. After i extract the iso file into seperate folder namely "server2008". My system configuration is given below:

C:\ [ Windows XP Pro SP2 Genuine is installed ] - NTFS 40GB

D:\ [ Usefull Stuff, Downloads... ] - NTFS 40GB

E:\ [ Newly created partition to install server 2008 ] - NTFS 40 GB

F:\ [ Empty space ] - Extended Partition.

Then i run the "setup". The installation wizard started and i selected the "E" drive. The files are copied successfully and restarted. Untill restrat, the process is done smoothly. After restart, the system can't start. I checked the BIOS, no problem. A blinking dash (--) is appeared on screen. I tried to restart the computer, still the blicking --- :(

I strange, server 2008 currupts my HDD's Master Boot Record (MBR). There is no virus in my system at the time of installation, because every sunday i ran full system scan for virus treats and backup imp files. I am using kaspersky IS Genuine on my test system and it is up-tp-date.

Note that my system meets server 2008 requirements.

AMD Athlon 64 2Gz Processor

1 GB of RAM - Kingston

Segate 160 GB HDD

ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard.

It happens many times when you install Vista or Server 2008 and it doesnt detect XP and overwrites XP boot loader. Same thing happened to you. But it looks like the image you downloaded is corrupt or something went wrong while running the setup cause it didnt install its own boot loader as well. Thats why you are getting a blank screen at startup.

Try to run the setup again using Setup DVD and it should work.

Post your partition's infomation....

C: - Primary....etc....becoz...you hav written F: is extended parition...but extended is not a partition type...its category....So clearify...you are using multiple primary partition or not.

it's my Windows
