ya, i do use SPYBOT, i have mtnl triband. I tried MS site update too, same results....................besides i m new to WINDOWS XP, so no issues regarding pending updates disturbing the new updates installation. I will go through the articles u have sent.....................then let u know abt it. THANKS for the help

I tried Microsoft Update, choose the CUSTOM update option, tried downloading and installing 5 optional updates (non critical--for which no validation is required). Below is what i get

Solution: Check for updates again and wait while you install updates. You will be asked to accept the EULA before any updates with a EULA can be installed.

Problem: Not Enough Disk Space

Problem: Automatic Updates is currently installing updates
Solution: Please wait until Automatic Updates is complete and then check your update history. At that time, if the update has failed to install, you can try installing it from the website.

Problem: Please check your update history for a description.

I tried using the Troubleshooter, but no respite.................the updates were downloaded but could not be installed. If u could let me know where the downloaded updates are stored, i can try installing them manually.
