Re: TUTORIAL: Make Your Windows XP look-a-like Windows Vista

I went thru the entire tutorial and found many of the changes didn't take place or was actually not saved or over wrote the original files. I then went thru it a 2nd time, same thing.

I wish you would of stated that the replacer utility tool would of been needed with the various other files as with the 11. System Properties dialog box:

Would of saved me about 12 hrs. So I will go back and try to replace changed files witht he replacer and see if all goes well.

With all that said, I am glad you put together this tutorial and appreciate all that you have done.

Thank you very much.

Re: TUTORIAL: Transform Windows XP into Windows Vista

Thank you very much once again for the time you spent with such a FANTASTIC tutorial for us beginners , it is GREATLY appreciated.

I have used the WFB file download and so far so good. I am diving back into this with much enthusiasm once again.

I followed thru with the System Properties dialog box tut and it worked but now I have my original System icon in the control panel along beside a system file with out an icon .

the system file icon has my original xp media properties and the other without an icon has the new vista look.

Now how can I give this new vista sytem file a system icon as well? and can I also get rid of the original system icon inthe control panel rather than having the two?

Thank you very much for any responses that I may get.

Newbie, and Happy to be here !

Re: TUTORIAL: Transform Windows XP into Windows Vista

www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/161010.html

Any truth inot any of the following post i found? especially about the UDP Packets being sent out?

Thanks, I am just a newbie tryn to learn all the correct facts.

Looks like you should have done your homework before installing. The following are just a few user comments about Vista Transformation Pack 6.0:

"Has a MAJOR unistallation issue ...short of Reformatting or Repairing to a stable environment IF you are not prepared to do so you will be UNpleasantly surprised .. your system will NOT be the same when you TRY to uninstall this program...contrary to what is said on the messagebaords of the makes of the program."

"This thing is bad news."

"WILL NOT UNINSTALL...

Reinstalling to try to fix it, or fix the uninstall issues, does not work either.

Definitely not worth the trouble. You're pretty much looking at a reformat/reinstall to sort this all out correctly."

"It slows down the computer. It comes along with a trojan small horse virus. Spywares and adwares are also installed without your knowledge. So I am requesting you folks, not to download without knowing what actually you are doing. If you don't follow my review you may end up in undesirable results and may have to format your whole computer."

"After installing, the antivirus program bleeped that vimc.exe had a trojan. I deleted this... after installing and rebooting, the firewall app kept complaining sidebar.exe wanted to send out UDP packets.

THIS IS NOT GOOD.

Also, uninstalling is a pain - and I read the install instructions beforehand; it does not clean up after itself. (Well duh, this thing contains malware...)"

In other words, it sounds like the only way to "repair" the mess you've gotten yourself into would be to format the HDD & do a clean install of XP.
