Need to take registry back up

I have to take registry back up, kindly suggest what wil be the safest and best way to do that.

 The purpose of back up is to format the disk..

well u can see the menu at top of registery...there u will find dile ...options etc....in a drop down menu...u can find export ...this way u can take up bkup of ur registery...it wud cost u smwhat arnd 56 mb approx on xp....

When the whole registry is exported to a file just compress it (ZIP or RAR). The size will become almost 1/10th.

well that depends on matter of choice...if u u se sme compresser like kgb archiever...file can b upto 1/1000 of the original soze
