HDD is detected by your mobo becoz...you are performing formatting, copying processes...

make sure your HDD is not a Dynamic Disk and check your mobo bios setting for Enabled Option Try to boot from Other Device and 2nd boot device is your HDD

what is dynamic disk. This gave me lot of trouble when i created one partition from free space of my hdd while there were 4 primary partitions already. As a result vista converted my first partiton to dynamic & refuse to boot or even detect my hdd. So Ubuntu live cd came handy in this situation and saved me.

"prompt to press any key to boot from cd." Hi Cadcrazy as u mentioned dont allow it to show all five dots (.....) as it will show the blank screen it has happened with me too.. Just press any key immediatlty once it shows "Press Any key to boot from cd" That will solve ur problem..

In Logical Disk Manager has two type of storage mode for HDD.

Basic Disks
Dyanamic Disks

The basic partitions are limited to one disk and size is fixed. Dynamic volumes permit to adjust size and to add more free space either from the same disk or another physical disk. Dyanamic Disks are used to create spanned disk to implement RAID levels.
