Xp Installation Problem

Trying to reinstall xp on my friends system. System had two partitions c and d of 30 & 45 GB (approx) resp (C drive for xp and d drive for data).  I deleted & reformatted  c: to reinstall xp. As you know there are two steps for installation. First setup copy all the files to partition and then system reboot into hard disk and complete the installation process. Problem is with second step. After setup copies all the files system reboots and then prompt to press any key to boot from cd. After five dots ( . . . . .) all i see is cursor blinking, nothing else and system halts afterward. Tried many time but same thing again and again .It seems as sytem is not able to find any bootable device other than cd. I checked the boot sequence, it is cdrom followed by HDD0.

Guys please help me solve it.

Re: Xp Installation Problem

Hi CadCrazy

Welcome to this forum. Pls check following things:

1. In BIOS settings, make sure Hard disk is detecting. It should be present in 1st or 2nd option.

2. Try some other XP Setup disc to make sure its not a CD problem.

3. Try the same Setup CD in some other system.

It might be a hardware problem or CD problem. So pls check everything mentioned above.

First of all Welcome to MeraWindows Community

HDD is detected by your mobo becoz...you are performing formatting, copying processes...

make sure your HDD is not a Dynamic Disk and check your mobo bios setting for Enabled Option Try to boot from Other Device and 2nd boot device is your HDD

Re: Xp Installation ProblemFirst of all Welcome to MeraWindows Community

you can try to set the 1st boot device as the cd rom, and let the setup copy the necessary files, and while rebooting, change the 1st boot device to hdd and 2nd boot device to cd. and you can also try a different setup cd, or try installing in a different hdd.
