unkown error

This just started to occur, and I don't know what caused it to start, but when I right click on a network connection  and go to properties I get a windows warning message.  Here is a screen shot of the message.

Please help.  I can still use my connections and the internet and such, but the other day I needed to use a static ip and couldn't do it.  now I need to set up a new wireless connection with some security and I'm not able to do so.

It seems that the problem is with your Intel Network card. You said " when I right click on a network connection  and go to properties I get a windows warning message." At that time, is Local Area Connection Connected ? If it is connected, the error generated because, The Connection fails(disconnects) at the time of you opened Properties window.

Can u explain the problem in detail ? i.e., Which tasks are running and what are you doing when this error occurs ?

Re: unkown error

The problem is with all network connections, active or not.  The connections are working just fine.  I am not able to view the properties.  It doesn't matter whats running or not.  The message displays everytime I try to view properties.  I did have a program called config free that was part of the laptops original software.  I thought that maybe it was taking over, even though it has worked fine for a year.  I shut down the program and took it out of the boot sequence, and still getting the message.  By the way, config free would give the same message when trying top look at settings of a particular network device.

Re: unkown error

You've been facing that for a year !! Ohh well don't worry anymore. Follow these steps and you'll be good

1. Click Start, then Run.
2. Type or paste the following (without quotes) " regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\netshell.dll " , and then click OK.
3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.

Check if you see the Network Properties now. If not then follow these also :

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type or paste the following (without quotes) " regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\ole32.dll " , and then click OK.
3. In the RegSvr32 dialog box, click OK.
4. Restart the computer.

The problem should be solved. Its typically cause cause of some incorrect or damaged registry setting. If it still doesn't work report back, and I'll be glad to help
