Calling a "invisible" Routine from Startmenue via batch

Greetings!

First i apologize for my Bad english..

My Problem: I really hate the sort mechanism of XP for the Startmenu. In my Company i need it that the menu is always sorted alphabetically but i found only the way to do it manually from start menu context. My users are not much smarter as myself and cant be arsed to do that all the time.  So i need something to call the proper Menu Context to sort the Menu to call it from a command line. OMG i hope someone else understood what i wrote here.

So anyone out there has a idea how i can do that without changing any system file? The link in the Kontext Menu also calls something so i need to know what and how i can do that from command line.

Anyone a idea? Any hints welcome

Yours

Tom

Re: Calling a "invisible" Routine from Startmenue via batch

As far as I have understood U want to sort the start menu in alphabetical order automatically. If yes then here is the solution

1. Open regedit (Start -> Run. Type regedit)
2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu\Menu OR HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu2\Menu
3. Remove the order key by right clicking and going to delete.
4. Log out then back in.

Hope it works if not then let me know and also welcome to the forums

Re: Calling a "invisible" Routine from Startmenue via batch

Thanks for the nice welcome and the fast reply. I found the key already while digging in the registry. The problem is, that it is no solution for my problem.

The base problem is, that each user gets on each login a dynamic Menu via vbs scripting and that damn menu is always unsorted. I tried it with writing the lines in the correct order but that didnt worked. what i didnt tried was to delete the key "order" before creating the shortcuts but i think that will not work cause the function is called before the shortcuts are in proper location. Thats why i need to call the function from batch/vbs which is behind the "order by name" shortcut in the context menu. So i can first create all shortcuts and then sort it.

Any other idea?

Tom

Ok i rewrote my loginscripts. Now i delete all the "order" Values in the subkey(s) and sort works then for that one but the Primary folder "Programs" is still not sorted. Any other new created Folder below Programs is fine by now. Hmm could it be, that "added" entrys get in another "area" then the original ones which get mixed from "all users.." and "Default"? Thats the only explanation i have atm.

Windows is strange
