Anyone know how to correctly format and reinstall XP over Vista???
My friend cant format any partitions at all!:'(

You friend must be trying to format the partition from Windows thats why its giving error. Try what mav3 suggested. Boot using XP or Vista Setup CD/DVD and then format it.

I mean he cant even go farther than loading the initial files before setup screen in XP.........

Vista CD1 not formatting!

There are 3 options:

1. Use some partitioning software like Partition Magic. They can format the partition at reboot time if its under use of Windows.

2. If XP Setup is not working, it means the CD is corrupt.

3. In Vista DVD choose repair option and it'll open Command Prompt, then you can format the partition.
