Dolby Labs has recently reported during in the post-earnings conference call with investors that Dolby Technologies won’t be included in next version of Windows 8.

Kevin Yeaman  said during the conference call -

However, we have recently learned that our technologies are not currently included in the Windows 8 operating system under development. If our technologies are not included in the commercial version of Windows 8, we expect to support DVD playback functionality by increasingly licensing our technologies directly to OEMs and ISVs, and we will seek to extend our technologies to further support online content playback.

Digital Dolby support is available in Windows 7 and if Microsoft doesn’t plans to have dolby support in Windows 8 it would be a major setback for the company. Dolby Labs stock was down by 17.8% on Friday when this news came.

Even though if currently Microsoft hasn’t struck a deal with Dolby Labs they may do it in future or Microsoft may license via another provider.

Does it directly affect the consumers ? Well, The Dolby integration did only work with stream sound systems and that too only digital. So to consumers it might harldy make any difference ? Correct me if i am wrong.
