In this short tutorial, let us learn how to turn Windows Vista Defender on. Follow the steps as shown below: 
 
1) Click Start Menu and select “Control Panel” as shown in Figure 1.

2) When “Control Panel” opens up select “Security” as shown in Figure 2.

3) When “Security” opens up click “Windows Defender” as shown in Figure 3.

4) Now “Windows Defender” appears. Click “Options” under "Tools and Settings" as shown in Figure 4.

5) Now scroll down and in “Administrator Options” check “Use Windows Defender” and click save button as shown in Figure 5.

In this short tutorial, let us learn how to turn Windows Vista Firewall on. Follow the steps as shown below: 
 
1) Click Start Menu and select “Control Panel” as shown in Figure 2.

2) When “Control Panel” opens up select “Security” as shown in Figure 2.

3) When “Security” opens up click “Turn Windows Firewall on or off” as shown in Figure 3.

4) Now “Windows Firewall Settings” dialogue appears. In general tab there will be options to set the Firewall on or off as shown in Figure 4. Select the radio button to set the Firewall on or off as shown in Figure 4.

This tutorial shows how to adjust font size to make text visible and readable in Windows Vista. Follow the steps as shown below: 
 
1) Right click on desktop and select “Personalize” from the drop down list as shown in Figure 1.

2) When “Personalize” window opens click “Adjust font size (DPI)” as shown in Figure 2.

3) As you can see in “DPI Scaling” dialogue box there are two default options to select, which are – 96 (DPI) which makes it possible to fit more information and 120 (DPI) which makes the text to appear in bigger size and more readable (see figure 3). You can even choose your own font size by clicking “Custom DPI…” button as shown in Figure 3.

4) As shown in figure 3 you can see that 96 (DPI) has been selected and the text size would be as shown in figure 4. When you check “Larger scale (120 DPI)” radio button, the text size would be better visible as shown in figure 5. After selecting “Large scale (120 DPI)” you would be prompted to restart computer to apply the changes that you have requested. Once you restart computer, the font size will come into effect.

5) In “Custom DPI Setting” there are two more DPI sizes to select from the drop down list as shown in figure 6. If you feel the font size is still small and want increase it, then you can select 144 DPI or 192 DPI from the drop down list in "Custom DPI Setting" dialogue box and click Ok button.

This step by step tutorial guides you to change the background image of your desktop. Follow the steps as shown in below: 
 
1) Right click on desktop and click “Personalize” from the drop list as shown in Figure 1 .

2) When personalization window opens select “Desktop Background” as shown in Figure 2 .

3) When “Desktop Background” window open you can pick any of the default images that will be there or you can choose any image that you want to set it as your desktop background. In this case I have selected red flower image which I have marked in the Figure 3. Now click ok after selecting an image, now you can see that your desktop image has been changed, I have changed the desktop background image as shown in Figure 4.

This short tutorial shows you how to add or remove a program from Quick Launch toolbar. Follow the steps as shown below: 
 
1) Type “Quick Launch” in start menu search box as shown in figure 1. When a list of folders and files that matches your search term appears select “Quick Launch” folder from the list as shown in Figure 1.

2) When “Quick Launch” folder appears you can just right click on any program that you want to remove and select “Delete” from the drop down menu as shown in Figure 2.

3) To add a program you can just copy the program that you want to add and paste it into quick launch folder or you can just drag and drop from other place. Figure 3 illustrates you how you can drag and drop a program into "Quick Launch" folder, in this case I am dragging “Chess Titans” game from start menu to quick launch folder.

This tutorial shows you how to add or remove recently viewed files and programs from Start menu. Follow the steps as shown below: 
 
1) Right click on taskbar and select “Properties” from the menu list as shown in Figure 1 .

2) When “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” box appears click “Start Menu” Tab as shown in Figure 2.

3) In “Start Menu” under “Privacy” uncheck both “Store and display a list of recently opened files” and “Store and display a list of recently opened programs” boxes to remove “Recent items” from start menu as shown in Figure 3.

4) Now you can see that “Recent items” is has been removed from start menu as shown in Figure 4.
