Desktop problem and explorer.exe file missing
Modified By AGuyWithProblems on 10/6/2008 9:01:57 AM)

This problem occurred few days ago. After I've entered my windows log on password, the desktop displayed only the picture of my background. And those desktop icons and the taskbar is not on my desktop.

And I've found out that my explorer.exe file encountered some problems. It keep restarting my computer from time to time (maybe its a virus infected my computer). And today, my explorer.exe file is MISSING!

I don't know whether this is a big serious problem or anything else.

I need your help urgently. If you can help me with this, I will really appreciate what you've done.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
AGuyWithProblems

Re: Desktop problem and explorer.exe file missing

How do you say these files are missing? Have you checked whether these files were Hidden ?

Can you login to WIndows without these files? If you can I will suggest to scan your PC first with a good AV with latest updates. Do this in Safe mode and disconnected from net.

Also do a System File Checker, Sfc.exe which is command line utility & will check and replace any system file missing. It may ask for your XP CD also for restoring.

Command is  sfc /scannow

For more details check : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747

Also get Microsoft malicious software removal tool and run it.
