Do you want to link to videos from your website? If you do then you might find Yahoo’s new web player to be interesting. This web player provides an easy way to add video and audio to Web pages. You don’t have to worry about embedding various media players and supporting different formats. All it really takes is including a line of the script in the body of the page where the media files reside. The player can autodetect video/ audio files on your website and include a small play button next to each of the media items. The web player autodiscovers the rich media content by scanning the webpage. Webmasters would find this an extremely easy way to include media player capabilities to your site. Some amount of customisation is also available e.g. autoplay, volume level, embedding custom image in player etc.
The users of existing Yahoo Media Player should upgrade to using this new Web Player as it represents of this service. It supports a multitude of rich media formats as Yahoo! Video, YouTube, MP3 or WMA. More formats are likely to be supported in the future. The webplayer doesn’t use HTML 5 but a combination of HTML and JavaScript. Though everywhere we could find, the web player was still using the Abode Flash player. Today, when HTML 5 is almost everywhere, a player built on lash doesn’t make too much sense.
Personally, we don’t think this is a replacement of embedding videos on your site.
